Tom Mix (1880-1940)
in "The Miracle Rider" |
He was king of the battling
cowboys in the break-neck programmers of the Thundering '20s.
The indestructible Mix, who performed fearless Western stunts
for decades and broke dozens of bones in the process, finally
met his maker speeding down a dirt road near Florence, Arizona
in 1940. The 60 year-old indestructonaut, by now on his fifth
wife, liked to drive his machine hard. He appeared from nowhere
at reckless speeds, hit a construction ditch, flipped hard and
was ejected from his convertible sportscar as the horrified
work crew could only watch. |
