Friends of Evel |

|
Liberace (1919-1987) |
"Lee" to his friends, Liberace
was one of Evel's all-time favorite performers. Mr. Showmanship
once had himself levitated by wire over the audience in the
Caesar's Palace showroom as the band played "The Impossible
Dream." From overhead in his full length mink coat he greeted
Evel's party: "Eat your heart out Evel Knievel, eat your
heart out!" Evel loved it. |
|
Elvis Presley (1935-1977) |
"Elvis
Presley was a good friend of mine. He dated my sister Loretta,
my half-sister, for a long time. I always loved the outfits
that Elvis wore," Evel told the pressroom at Galpin Ford.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the dressing room in the Vegas
Hilton, where the Memphis Mafia and the Supreme E held court
after showtime for special friends like Bobby Knievel from Butte,
Montana.
They were an intriguing triad - the
hard-drinking daredevil, the flamboyant pianist, and the king
of rock and roll in his gangster G-man Vegas glory.
