John Derek |
John Derek was a special
friend of Evel's. Derek starred in many weirdly fantastic adventure
films of the '50s including The Ten Commandments (1956). In
that film, Derek, as Joshua, was rescued by Charlton Heston
as Moses from a savage beating at the hands of Vincent Price.
John Derek was married to actress Linda
Evans when Evel took his December 31st, 1967 jump over
the fountains at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Derek operated
the camera on the take-off side, but it was Linda Evans running
the 16-mm Imo camera on the landing side. The sharp-eyed future
star of Dynasty captured in slow-motion the brutal, bone-breaking,
coma-inducing crash that paradoxically put Evel on the map across
the nation. Above, matinee idol John fights for mirror time
in "Mask Of The Avenger." Below, Linda sets sail on
"The Love Boat." |
